Adopting a dog is a life changing moment, not only for the potential adopters but also for the rescue dog that you have chosen to be your new family member. We would like to thank you for considering Fairy Tail Dog Rescue as a potential place of adopting your new furry best friend. We ask all potential adopters before filling out our adoption application that you are 100% ready to commit to your new best friend in all areas necessary, that you are able to provide the necessities that dog requires for his/her wellbeing and also that the entire household is on board with the adoption.
Our organization focuses on rescuing and finding forever families for Caribbean stray dogs known as Potcakes. We strongly suggest before applying for one of our Potcakes that you do research on the characteristics, behaviour and overall info when it comes to island dogs as they are very different from other rescue pups. We are also available to answer any questions you might have. Most of our rescued pups come from places where their beginning stages of life were not great. As you can imagine, the lifestyle overall is very different on the islands than in Canada so that also affects the dogs character. Once the dog flies to our rescue he or she needs quite some time for decompression and adjustment to their new surroundings and life. Due to a huge overall change most Potcakes requires a lot of patience, time, effort, and lots of love.
Adoption Process And Requirements
To be considered as an adopter you must:
❏ Be 21 years of age or older
❏ Have a picture identification that shows your current address
❏ If renting you need to have knowledge and consent of your landlord for allowing a pet in the premises.
❏ All dogs living in the household already must be neutered/spayed and up to date with their vaccinations.
❏ Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary, to provide proper care and medical treatments for the dog.
Please fill out the adoption application form, read the application carefully and we ask that you fill the form out completely as incomplete applications cannot be processed. We will screen all your information thoroughly as we are very serious about our Potcake’s well being and finding the right match for them and you. Upon pre-approval, you will have a phone chat with our adoption co ordinator. During the phone call we will go over your submitted application and information with you. If the process is further approved we will schedule a home visit with your potential new family member to meet your surroundings, family and go over any questions/concerns. We ask that all family members and pets that reside in the house are home at the time of our visit. This is very important as we need to make sure everyone is ready to welcome a new dog into their home. We have the right to refuse any applications and not proceed further with the process if we feel that the application does not meet Fairy Tail Dog Rescue requirements for the adoption. Please be patient as we review your application as it is vital for our rescue to go over every detail you provide carefully.
As we are a 100% non profit volunteer based organization, all fees for adoption are going back to the dogs to cover their medical bills, daily necessities,transportation,training and other required means. We are here to make sure all of our Potcakes receive the best care and life possible.
Adoption Fees
Puppies up to 12 months $800
Adult dog 1 year and over $750
Senior dog 8 years and over $500
Adoption Fee Covers
❏ Full medical history and health certificate from government licensed Veterinarian
❏ Spay/Neuter for puppies over the age of 6 months. If a pup is adopted under 6 months it is the adopters responsibility to spay/neuter their adopted dog.
❏ Age appropriate vaccinations
❏ Deworming and Parasite Treatment
❏ Air travel and import fees
❏ All dogs arriving into Canada are fully vetted and inspected by a government approved Veterinarian in the originating country.
❏ Collar and a leash
❏ Bag of food and a toy
❏ Tools for training and decompression information for transitioning your new
Potcake into your home and family.
❏ Microchip after Adoption
We are fully dedicated to each dog that comes into our rescue. It's of most importance to us that the dog receive the best care and be matched with the most suitable forever home. Even after the dog has been adopted we are still here for each and every dog and also to answer any questions or give advice to the adopters if needed. Should an adopter no longer be able to care for their Fairy Tail Rescue Dog, the dog is legally required to come back into our care.
